Archer is already starting to adjusting to the time zone – he slept in till 4:15am – I’ll happily take any extra minutes of sleep he gives me. It was our first non-rainy morning so we packed the family up and walked across the street to Kamaole Beach Park III. Kam III got hit pretty hard with the hurricanes earlier in the year, so the beach is closed and not safe for swimming but it was still a nice to walk. You also now have to pay to park there so it was a lot less busy and a lot quieter than past visits. They have parking attendants that monitor the lot, so the rules are heavily enforced. Ayla got to do some swinging at the play set and she found some good climbing trees. We then walked to the next beach north Kamaole Beach Park II. The beach looked a lot better than Kam III but once we walked down to it, it had a stale water smell from runoff and the water was still pretty rocky. So again, not great for swimming unless you wore shoes.
With the surf still being high from the recent storms we decided to make today a pool day. Archer got to experience a pool for the first time, which was so fun. He loved kicking his feet in his little personal float and didn’t cry once. Ayla loved having brother in the water with her and wants to make him a fish just like her.We had a nice snack break by the pool and then we were off to Maui brewery company to meet friends for dinner.
Last year our dining experience with Maui brewing company was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had, so I was hesitant to return this trip. But, in all the visits we’ve had it’s been very consistent in quality of food and typically great service. So we gave it another try and they more then redeemed themselves. Our waitress (who I believe was the same we had last time that was horrible) did a phenomenal job navigating the menu with all of my restrictions and the chef made me one of the best meals. They made me ubi potatoes (which are amazing) topped with mahi-mahi and vegetables with an olive oil-based sauce over it. It was so good, I ate every last bite. Our waitress also claims that Maui brewing has one of the best mai tais on the island (I have a hard time believing that, Monkeypod mai tais are the best on the island) but two of the people we were with said that they preferred Maui brewing. With the caveat being that the Maui brewing company Mai tais are more fruit forward and if I’m having a cocktail, I definitely want it more alcohol forward. So while I didn’t have one there, I’m going to stand by my original thought and say that the Monkey Pod ones are still the best on the island. Maui brewing also does a pineapple dole whip on top rather than the lilikoi foam, so another different take on it.
After dinner we headed back to the condo and everyone went straight to bed. It was a long day and we were all very tired. We all fell right to sleep to get ready to take on a new adventure tomorrow.
