Day 4 – A Sand Kingdom!

We had a slow start to our day. AJ was ancy to get to the beach but Archer had other plans. Archer ended up having his morning nap last over 2 hours, so we didn’t head out until almost noon. Yikes! Maui is known for the trade winds to kick up in the afternoon, so we missed prime beach time. My godparents were at the beach attached to Kihei Boat Landing, which is a small, but protected from the wind, so we headed to meet them.

Ayla had been talking about how excited she was to make sand castles with them since our last trip to Hawaii – a year ago! By the time we left the beach for the day, they built a whole kingdom. The wind made the water choppy, but because we were in a protected cove it was still enjoyable. Archer had his first sand experienced today too. He insisted it was meant to be eaten, even after his first mouthful of it, oh-vey. He’s becoming more mobile and independent, so it was a challenge containing him to a sand-free mat.

After our beach afternoon we were back at the condo to enjoy a beautiful sunset and an amazing home grilled meal. Safeway has precut vegetable platters for $7 that makes for a great side on the grill. Our condo came with a grilling basket, so we couldn’t resist. We had chicken breasts, jasmine rice and grilled chicken for dinner, and it was pure perfection.

It was a later bedtime for everyone, so we all crashed hard after dinner. Tomorrow is Halloween, so we need to rest up to prepare for the festivities.
