Day 4: Under the sea

Woke up to another beautiful morning on the island. We knew we wanted to watch the Cougars plays at 2pm so we left for the beach early so we could still have a full beach day. Today we set out to Ulua beach to enjoy some snorkeling. This beach has some of the best snorkeling right off shore, making it easy enjoy the underwater world. We were lucky enough to have a huge turtle swim right by us and saw a fish chasing two eels. We also saw a school of fish just chilling right below us, lots of blue spotted cornetfish and of course the humu humu nuku nuku apua’a.

After snorkeling we hung out on the beach, read and also played in the water. The waves were bigger today, but still a lot of fun to float in. We ended up leaving the beach in the first quarter of the WSU game, so we decided to go back to the condo for lunch, then head to Moose McGillycuddy’s at half time. Moose McGillycuddy’s was the official WSU alumni viewing spot on Maui so there was a big turnout of Cougars (about 35 or so alumni). Steve, the host, was really nice and gave us lots of free gear. Even though they lost it was still nice to meet so many new people. The game ended right before sunset so walked across the street to enjoy the view. Maui never disappoints with sunsets.

Tonight was the last night of restaurant week so ended it with Ka’ana Kitchen at the Andaz resort.  This resort was a lot more intimate than the other two we had been to. They brought a lot of nature inside with sand art exhibits, lots of exposed dark wood and plants everywhere. The views of the ocean were breathtaking. The special thing about Ka’ana Kitchen is its all farm to table; the menu is laid out not by meal option, but by the local farm it was sourced from.  We all chose from the restaurant week menu and the highlights were the watermelon salad, fried chicken and the coconut sundae. I would highly recommend this place for future visits.

Sunday football is right around the corner,

Until next time
