It wouldn’t be a first day on a tropical island if it didn’t involve some heavy beach time. We started the day out heading straight to my favorite beach, Maluaka Beach in Makena. I love this beach because the waves are usually really tame, not a lot of people and there are beautiful new condos built along the path which is a treat for the eyes. We swam in the ocean for a while (yes I was in the water for at least an hour!), saw a couple big turtles and lounged on the beach and read (only about 60 pages left of my first book, making good progress!). There was a guy on the beach in front of us that made a turtle sculpture in the sand, it was beautiful. It lasted a couple hours until the water came up high enough to slowly wash it away. It was a fun first beach day; and no sun burns.
Per tradition after a long beach day we went back to the room to rest up for the evening plans and had a beer from the local brewery, Maui Brewing, and some chips and salsa.
This week is Restaurant Week Wailea, about 20 places created three course prix fixe menus for you to enjoy. Last night we went to Duo located in the Four Seasons resort. The dinner from start to finish was delicious, and the portion sizes were very generous. I opted in to do the wine pairing with each course elevating experience even more. After we ate we spent about an hour walking around the hotel. They had an art exhibit going on as well where we were able to meet some very talented artist. We also went into Hildgund Jewelry where the women working behind the counter let us play dress up. She let me and Tina try on a 10.5 carat diamond ring, valued at $70k, wow!
Stay tuned for the adventures,
Mahalo
