Day 11: Sun, Sand, and Sweet Dreams [Maui 2025]

Our first night without Ayla in the house we both experienced restless sleep. I also woke up at 5:30am with a bloody nose that lasted about 10 minutes, so by the time it ended I was up for the day. My hopes of having a good night’s sleep and being able to sleep-in were out the window quickly.

Since I was up early, I wanted to take advantage of the longer morning. There’s a paved pathway, the Wailea Beach Path that stretches 1.6 miles along the beach, it starts at Ulua beach and goes south. I have wanted to walk this path for a long time and since we were kid free AJ and I decided to head out when the gates open at 7am and try the pathway out. It was a beautiful walk! We weren’t able to do the full length of the path because we were meeting family for breakfast at 8am, but we got 2.5 miles done. The pathway has easy rolling hills and follows the beach/resorts the entire way. We couldn’t believe how far we had walked when we looked at the time; with great views, the distance rolls along easily.

After our walk we picked up my mother-in-law, Paula, and her friend Gabriella and went to Nalus for breakfast. I was the only one of the group who had been and I enjoyed it so much they all wanted to check it out too. My experience was just as yummy, and they all loved everything they ordered too. [On a side note, Paula and Gabriella went back to Nalus for dinner another day and both agreed that their breakfast was by far better than their dinner].

After breakfast we headed to my parents condo to pick up Ayla and hear how her night went. When Ayla saw us she ran over and gave us big hugs and told us she was ready for the beach and showed us all her stuff packed up. She said she had a lot of fun but wanted to stay with us tonight. My parents were very impressed with how well she did. They watched a movie before bed and about halfway through it Ayla said she was tired and ready for bed, so off to bed they went. My mom said even though Ayla slept all night, she did have restless sleep, so early morning my mom went into Aylas room and slept in there until Ayla was ready to get up for the day (Ayla got spoiled with that one).

Once we were all back together we headed to a new beach. I had a client recommend Charley Young beach, we have never been so we figured we would try it out. There is a small parking lot in front of the beach that is always empty which made parking really easy. This beach is just north of Kamaole Beach Park I, it has showers and an outhouse for amenities. This beach provided nice morning shade, however when the trade winds picked up late morning it was time to leave. Ayla was pretty moody during the whole first half of our beach day, but luckily she decided to take a long nap in my lap and when she woke up 90 minutes later, she was in much better mood. I ended up sleeping as well, so our whole beach day was spent sleeping. Since we ended up leaving the beach early afternoon we headed back to the condo for pool time.

Friday dinners in Hawaii are an easy choice for us. Safeway does $5 Fridays for their deli selection, so we had 2lbs of chicken wings and 1lbs of rib tips with Hawaiian macaroni salad, sweet potato kale salad and coleslaw, all for $25. Delicious food for a price you can’t beat. However, when we got back the condo, Ayla said she was too tired to eat and just wanted to go to bed. So we tucked her in before we sat down and it was off to bed early for us too.

Tomorrow is cougar football Saturday! Let’s go Cougs!
