Today is the day I have been most anxious for; anxious in the excited can’t wait to see how it goes kind of way. We started the morning out relaxing at the condo. Ayla was very excited looking for geckos and boy were they out in full force today. After we spent a couple hours on gecko watch we invited Granny and Gabriella over for a little pool party. It was a beautiful afternoon and with a slow morning, the pool sounded perfect. I decided to do a little workout before I joined in at the pool. The workout today was tough – more mentally than anything.
Workout:
15 minute cardio session on the elliptical
Circuit 1:
Cable hip extensions
Stability ball bridges
Stability ball crunches
My energy felt so low that I wasn’t enjoying the workout, so I took a 15 minute break to recharge with family by the pool. Then I went back to finish my workout with an upper body circuit.
Circuit 2:
Cable tricep pushdowns
Cable overhead tricep extensions
Dumbbell 2 arm bicep curl
Now that my workout was done, and I was feeling so much better, it was time to join in the pool fun! We played in the water until we were ready for lunch. We said our goodbyes to Granny and Gabriella and headed back to the condo to eat and get ready for date night!
AJ and I like to treat ourselves to a fancy restaurant experience with each island visit. My parents agreed to watch Ayla while we were out, and insisted they keep her for the whole night. This was a BIG deal! Ayla has never had an overnight away from us, so we were excited to try it out, but nervous for how she would do. We helped her pack an overnight bag for GG’s and Grandpa’s, got ourselves ready for dinner and headed to their condo.
My parents were staying in a two bedroom condo, so Ayla had her own bedroom and bathroom. At drop off she was very excited to show us her set up. Then she went right into playing with my mom and seemed content, so AJ and I said our good-byes and headed out for out date night! When I hugged Ayla good bye she said into my ear “and I can call and you’ll come get me”, I told her if she calls I will come right over, she gave me a big hug said “okay, momma, love you”. And that was that – (as I leave with my heart in a puddle).
AJ and I had a delicious dinner at Nick’s Fishmarket inside the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea. The table was set behind the pool, and while we couldn’t see the ocean, the views of the palm trees and hotel grounds were nice. We started our meal with kalua pig pot stickers in a caramelized Maui pineapple curry sauce. Talk about the best post stickers I have ever eaten, and that curry sauce was plate-licking good. Then for the main course I ordered the fresh catch of the day which was the monchong fish (a deep water Hawaiian fish) served over farro with veggies and AJ ordered the rack of lamb served with Moloka’i sweet potatoes, crispy goat cheese, Maui pineapple jam and a jalapeno-mint vinaigrette. WOW these dishes were packed with flavor and we loved that they were all locally sauced. The thing that stood out the most to us was even though it was an expensive place to eat, the servers and the general atmosphere were laid back. They never made us feel rushed and everyone that helped us was extremely kind. One thing that really wowed us was the table you reserve, is reserved for you for the night. When we were first seated we were one of the first guests to arrive and even though there were a ton of tables open, anyone that came in without a reservation was told only bar seating is available for the night. There were tables that were empty almost until we were getting ready to leave. It definitely made it a very enjoyable atmosphere.
After dinner we walked the hotel grounds, looked at all the artwork and just enjoyed each other’s company uninterrupted. We didn’t hear from my parents once, so we were excited to see them the next morning and hear how their night went.
Stay tuned!
