Day 12: Go Cougs! [Maui 2025]
We are on our final 2 days until we fly home. So, we wanted to get together with the group at least one more time. We know today was going to go quick with the WSU game starting at 1:30pm local time so an early beach close to our condo was a clear choice. We packed up our breakfast and headed to Keawakapu Beach in hopes others would join.
The morning was beautiful. The water was calm, a little cooler today, but there was a nice breeze, so staying in the direct sun felt nice. We had part of our group join us mid-morning, but at noon the trade winds came at us in full force. So we said our final goodbyes and headed back to the condo to get ready for the football game.
Moose McGillycuddy’s is a WSU alumni watch party location and the same person has been hosting it since we’ve started going in 2014. It is always a fun time and you get some good WSU swag too. Ayla loved all the cheering, singing the fight song and being able to play with the WSU swag. Unfortunately WSU lost in an upset, so while the group was a lot of fun, the outcome of the game was pretty frustrating.
After Moose’s we wanted to try a new food truck so we headed Alahele Pl in south Kihei, a recently established food truck alley. Ayla really wanted French fries and only one place offered that as part of a meal, Aloha Shrimp Kihei, so it made her order easy. She had the corn dog with French fries and the French fries were a very generous portion of her meal. This food truck also had a bucket full of extra sauces, utensils, napkins, etc. for customers. It seemed like a really nice food truck and one I wouldn’t mind trying to see what their non-kids menu items were like.
Per Google, Happy Belly food truck was supposed to be the best offering on the lot. So, AJ and I both ordered from there. He got the Pork Belly Rice dish and said it was underwhelming and lacked flavor overall. I ordered the 3 sliders (but if you wanted 3 different sliders you forfeited your French fries), so I ordered the grilled Ono, pulled pork and the Ebi with a side of coleslaw. Now, the slider flavor was great, however, for the price, it was extremely disappointing on quantity of toppings. The side of coleslaw was expensive and I only got a small spoonful of it too. They also charged extra for additional napkins, utensils and sauces. Needless to say, this is a food truck I will not likely be revisiting.
By the time we were heading back to the condo the sun was setting behind the clouds, so we pulled over to watch it for a few minutes, then headed home for bed.
Tomorrow is our last full day, and we have A LOT planned, stay tuned!
