Kauai Day 5 & 6: sitting this weekend out…I have the flu!
Well, Saturday was quite a disappointment for me. I woke up around 2am with a high fever, chills, body aches and a congested throat with a cough to match. Thankfully no one else is sick, but this is not what you want while on any vacation.
We had some good bouts of thunder last night and torrential downpour this morning. So if I had to be sick in bed, this weather definitely made the FOMO a little less. The stormy weather made for a refreshing breeze through the condo. If I wasn’t sleeping (which I hate naps when I’m sick, so you know when I spend more time asleep than awake, I’m down for the count), I was trying to eat.
Ayla stayed by my side most of the day (such a good nurse). She would remind me to drink my water, bring me a cold towel for my forehead and she drew me lots of pictures.
Every time we visit Hawaii, one of our must-eats are malasadas. Our friends were going to walk to Crave Cafe for breakfast so AJ tagged along to buy some malasadas. We tried the guava, coconut cream, papaya and Bavarian cream filled malasadas as well as two different doughnuts. The malasadas MUST be warmed up; when I ate them at room temperature I wasn’t a big fan. Unfortunately their dough wasn’t as light and fluffy as one would expect with malasadas. Of all the flavors we tried, the coconut cream was my favorite; it had a very rich coconut flavor. However, the doughnuts were a clear winner, they were very yummy.
Later in the afternoon Ayla and AJ had a pool day and then walked along the beach. I tried to make it to the walking path, but my energy just tanked too fast to make it all the way. So back to bed for me!
For dinner we ordered Diamond Pizza, and boy was it delicious! Despite being sick I still ate 3 pieces! After dinner I was back in bed to hopefully sleep off this crud.
I woke up still very sick. Fever has not dropped, but body aches and headache have improved.
This fever is kicking my butt. It was a beautiful sunny day (made it very hard to stay inside, in bed all day) so AJ and Ayla headed back to Lydgate Beach with our friends for a morning beach day. They stayed almost the whole morning. I was hoping by the time they got back I would be up to hanging out, but the fever stayed high so I stayed in bed or sat on the lanai all day. It was a pretty quiet day overall.
Send me your healing vibes and let’s hope this doesn’t get passed to anyone else!
Hopefully Monday we can all start the week off right. Stay tuned.
