Kauai Day 2: My new favorite beach!

Today was an early, slow morning. We woke up with enough time to make coffee and walk to watch sunrise. Our condo is located on the Kauai Multi-use Path (Ke Ala Hele Makalae), a beautiful water front/beach front path that stretches for several miles. This was our first sunrise in Hawaii, and it was beautiful. We were blessed with a colorful and almost cloudless sky. After sunrise we strolled along the path and watched a fishing boat launch from the Waikaea Canal (this canal also backs up to our condos parking lot). Once back on our resort grounds we enjoyed walking through the herb gardens again and visiting the koi pond.

The rest of the day was a beach day. We decided to spend the day at Lydgate Beach Park. This beach is less than 10 minutes from our condo and it’s my new favorite beach. It has a protected swim area, so even though the waves were crazy, the swimming area was completely smooth. The max depth was about chest level for adults, it had easy snorkeling for beginner snorkelers (lots of large fish, but not a lot of coral), plenty of parking, lifeguards on duty, full facilities and the two largest play areas I have ever seen. We had cloud cover for most of our stay, so while we had no shade, the clouds offered a great break from the heat of the sun.

After our beach day we came back to our condo for a workout [see workout below] and then spent the rest of afternoon at the pool. The pool goes 8 feet deep, so it makes a fun time for both Ayla and us. After the pool we had a quick dinner and then headed back to walk the Ke Ala Hele Makalae for sunset. We were tired from a day of sun and swim so it quickly headed off to bed for an early morning diving adventure.
